  • Reviewed: Tesla Model S part 9: Safety and post-crash follow-up

This is one part of the review I was not expecting to write, yet events would have it another way. Back in April, while on our way to kindergarten and work, a pedestrian suddenly stepped into the street (just ahead of an SUV on my left). With one bad option, and the other significantly worse, I opted for the bad one, and veered right, ending with the front end planted into a lamp-post. My quick reaction resulted in no serious damage to anyone, though the front end did suffer more than a little:

  • Review: DJI Osmo Mobile 2

Back in 2016, I backed a kickstarter for a handheld three-axis gimbal for cellphones, to be delivered in 2017. I was eagerly anticipating the product, and was disappointed when delivery was delayed repeatedly. A year after the projected delivery date, and with features being cut by the manufacturer, I finally gave in and requested a refund from them. To my surprise, they acquiesced, and I went out to buy a different unit; the DJI Osmo Mobile 2. Here are my thoughts:

  • Reviewed: Tesla Model S part 8: How Tesla deals with issues

With nearly 30000 kilometers behind the wheel of my Model S, I have seen the good and the bad. The car behaves well in most conditions, and winter driving is absolutely no problem (as it has been since very shortly after winter came in my first season with the car. We have been all over southern Norway, from Kristiansand in the south, to Stavanger and Bergen in the west, and Trondheim in the north. The car has been – and continues to be – an absolute joy to drive. Inevitably, there have been some problems.

  • Reviewed: Jaybird X3

About a year ago, I was on the look for a new set of wireless in-ear headphones. They had to be bluetooth compatible, had to support both audio playback and phone calls, and they had to fit my ears. After reading a lot of reviews, I ended up with a set of Jaybird X3. Here are my notes on my experience with them:

  • Reviewed: Røde SmartLav+

It should be a well established truth that on-board camera microphones are bad to terrible, and on some cameras, for some applications, they are downright useless. A few months ago, I bought a Røde SmartLav+ to take more control over the sound quality of some of my videos. I record sound on my iPhone, and combine the footage with the audio in post production, an editing step that (given software that supports audio-based sync) takes very little time, and which helps solve the issue of poor audio quality.

  • Reviewed: Ubiquiti AmplifiHD

We’ve been plagued with spotty wi-fi coverage since we moved to our new home early last year. There are many reasons for this, not the least of which is that our router is placed next to a concrete wall, which blocks a fair bit of the signal. This meant that the network coverage in the office, downstairs, and on the other side of said wall from the router, had a more or less useless wireless connection.

  • Reviewed: Tesla Model S part 7: 15000 kilometers later

Since first picking up the car a year ago, we’ve driven more than 15000 kilometers. Regardless of the season, the car is a joy to drive. Though the rear-wheel drive can be challenging when the roads are snow covered, this is more a question of adapting to the conditions, rather than an actual problem. Likewise, even when conditions are very cold indeed (15 degrees below zero, centigrade) range is only ever a problem if you completely fail to plan (I admit that I have done so once, with the result that I had to stop to charge at a fairly slow charger for an hour to get enough power to get home comfortably).

When I replaced my Bose QC 15 with a pair of QC 25 last year, I reviewed them here on the blog. They recently started acting up. Rather than have them repaired, I paid the difference, and took home a pair of QC 35.
