  • Review: DJI Osmo Mobile 2

Back in 2016, I backed a kickstarter for a handheld three-axis gimbal for cellphones, to be delivered in 2017. I was eagerly anticipating the product, and was disappointed when delivery was delayed repeatedly. A year after the projected delivery date, and with features being cut by the manufacturer, I finally gave in and requested a refund from them. To my surprise, they acquiesced, and I went out to buy a different unit; the DJI Osmo Mobile 2. Here are my thoughts:

  • Kindle: Reset the furthest page read

I’ve been an ebook user for a very long time now, and bought my first dedicated ebook reader nine years ago. In 2011, it got replaced with an Amazon Kindle, and I’ve been a Kindle user ever since, using both their dedicated devices (including the larger DX size), as well as PC, Mac, and iOS apps.

  • Why I’m hosting my own blog

“Why host it yourself?” my acquaintance asked at some point in our discussion, where we’d been talking about hosting options for a website. “Why go through the hassle and cost of owning your own domain, maintaining the software, and the significantly reduced audience size?” I gave them a fairly short – if accurate – answer, and left it at that, but the question gnawed at me, and I started thinking…

  • 15 years of WordPress

May 27th 2003 was a very important day in web and self-publishing history. It was the day of the very first WordPress release. Since then, WordPress has grown to become arguably the most prominent CMS (Content Management System) out there. It’s used to run such sites as the New York Times Company, the White House, and the Facebook Newsroom.

  • Failure, learning, and company culture

I’ve had a number of posts drawing on the experiences from my bachelor studies, that I started some six years ago. I’m currently studying what will be the final module, focusing on entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainability. This has led me to think about the differences between intrapreneurship and entrepreneurship – which can be summed up as whether you’re engaging in innovation and change within an existing business (intrapreneurship) or in a newly formed venture (entrepreneurship). In the extension of this, I’ve also been reflecting a lot about company culture.

  • Enabling two-factor authentication on WordPress

For the past two years, I’ve been enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever I can, and particularly on services where I want to ensure that my data is as secure as possible. Back in April, I added 2FA to this site. As this was the first time I’d ever set something like this up on a service that I maintain myself, I went to the task with a fair bit of trepidation as I simply had no idea how easy or difficult it would be. As it turns out, it is very easy. Here’s how I did it:

  • Data protection revisited

As I mentioned in my previous article about the topic, I am doing the best I can to comply with GDPR. In addition to what I covered back then, I have also updated the privacy policy of the site, and am continually working to ensure that I remain in compliance to the best of my ability. Part of doing so is reviewing the data collection and retention settings involved with Google Analytics.

  • Returning to Android

I’ve been a very happy iPhone user since I bought my first one back in 2011, when I replaced an Android phone with which I had neither been happy nor impressed. I have had a number of iPhones, each with more capabilities than the last, and am currently using an iPhone 7, with which I am very happy, and which ties in nicely with my setup at home and on the go, as I use a Mac, an Apple Watch, and Apple Airpods.

  • Reviewed: Apple Airpods

One of the things I picked up in 2017 was a set of Apple Airpods. In my post favorite discoveries in 2017, I promised a review, and here it is.

  • Demonetising the blog

As I have previously alluded to, I have had ads on the blog to offset costs involved in running it. This past week, I turned them off. I have considered doing so for some time, and well, it felt like it was time to do so. There are a few reasons why I took this step, and I would like to take a moment to address some of them:
