It’s always a good idea to keep track of login items – i.e. what applications are being automatically opened when you log in. In Windows 7 (and, if memory serves, on previous versions of Microsoft Windows), this is done through the MS Config tool. Here’s how:
- In the start menu, click Run (or hit Win+R on your keyboard)
- In the run menu, enter msconfig
- Go to the startup tab
From here you can enable and disable applications one by one, or all at a time. A word of caution: don’t disable login items just to have the leanest possible boot. I would only recommend disabling those services that you actively do not want to start. I will cover one such in an upcoming post.
